Catskill CSD is Planning to Offer Evening Community Education Classes Funded by Questar
We are looking for members of the Catskill community who would be interested in teaching classes in the Fall 2014. We would like to offer unique classes that interest and meet the needs of the community. If you have a suggestion for a class, let us know. All ideas are welcome! We are also considering offering a Medical Coding course for adults in the community in the district’s Distance Learning facilities. We also would like to know if you have any interest in taking this course in Catskill. If you have a special passion, interest or talent you would like to share with others please contact Pamela Mertz at pmertz@questar.org or 518-479-6869 for schedules and pay rates. A community interest survey will soon follow!

Letter from Dr. Farrell-Superintendent
Dear Colleagues and Parents,
There has been very vocal conversation occurring this spring regarding standardized testing and SED's position on testing. While we, as a school community, do not subject our students to excessive testing, and, as a school community do not place undue emphasis on required testing for the sake of testing, we must follow the requirements SED has developed for such mandated examination -- in the same manner we follow other SED and legislative regulations. The CTA and our district are currently working together to develop SED acceptable plans as part of our "second round" of APPR which will -- perhaps -- minimize the time during the school year devoted to assessment. Our district's position -- and that of our Board of Education -- has always been one which places emphasis on sound classroom practice and quality instruction. SED required assessments are only one portion of a comprehensive academic experience. These assessments -- and the data which they generate -- help us all target areas in which we should focus our attention so that our students may thrive and develop the competitive skills they will need to be successful in their career path. So, we test. And we view these exams as part -- an important part both in terms of what we learn from the data and in meeting our SED mandates -- but only a portion of the full educational snapshot in long term planning for our student growth.
