Forty-six creative-minded students at Catskill High School designed and painted a fantastic cat for the Heart of Catskill Association’s annual Cat’n Around Catskill event. Their cat, named “Window Into the Catskills,” is adorned with a stained glass motif. Taking a closer look reveals views from around our area, including scenes from the mountains, river, downtown Catskill, Olana, and Catskill High School (home of the Catskill Cats!).
This fabulous work of art will join other creative cats on display around the Village of Catskill from Memorial Day to mid-September, including a cat from Catskill Elementary School. The cats will be auctioned off at the Cat’s Meow Gala and Auction on September 23 and the money they raise will go right back into our community.
The project was coordinated by CHS art teacher Wendy Doney, who invited any student who wanted to participate in the project. Students came up with the idea for the project and the name for their cat, and did all the work afterschool or during lunch or study hall.
Thanks to Tori G’s Pizzeria, who sponsored Catskill High School’s cat project. You’ll be able to find “Window Into the Catskills” on display outside Tori G’s on Rt. 23, near the approach to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge.
