Concert Chorus Earns Gold at NYSSMA Festival

Concert Chorus with their Gold certificate on the steps of Kingston High School

Congratulations to the Catskill High School Concert Chorus, who earned a Gold rating at the New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) Majors Festival, held June 5th at Kingston High School.

“It’s the highest rating possible, and I am so proud of them!” remarked Catskill chorus teacher Michelle Storrs.

This was the first time the chorus has attended a majors festival in 13 years. In majors festivals, students are judged as a large ensemble. The Chorus prepared and performed three selections and received feedback and scores from the NYSSMA judges, based on factors such as their tone, intonation, balance, technique, accuracy/execution, interpretation, and diction. A Gold rating is awarded only to a performance group that has demonstrated an outstanding level of technical and artistic skill in each of these areas over the course of their three selections.
