Seventh grader Karsen Chiminelli successfully defended her title as Champion this January during Catskill Middle School’s 2018 Spelling Bee. She and other students from grade six through eight showed their mettle in this school-wide spelling showdown that took 29 rounds to decide. Spelling “subnivea” got Karsen (right) into the final round, where she successfully spelled “stasis” to clinch the title. An impressive repeat performance for the seventh grader, who was the Middle School’s spelling bee champ in 2017!
As our winner, she will be representing Catskill Middle School at the 2018 Capital Region Spelling Bee held at Proctor’s Theatre in Schenectady on February 13!
Seventh grader Christopher Konsul, with another impressive repeat performance, took 2nd place this year, a spot he earned in last year’s spelling bee as well. Eighth grader Elizabeth Finnegan finished up on the podium in 3rd place.
CMS congratulates Karsen, Chris, and Elizabeth on their terrific spelling chops, and we wish Karsen luck at regionals!
