Letter from Dr. Cook on Changes to School Calendar

March 22, 2018

Dear Catskill CSD Community:

Last night, the Board approved my recommendation to amend the 2017-18 District calendar. In a previous notification, I indicated that we over-utilized an additional snow day beyond our allotment of 5 snow days. To account for the additional snow day, I moved the Professional Development Day that was scheduled from June 7, 2018 to March 30, 2018. As a result, Spring Break will not be disrupted for students. Spring Break begins on Friday, March 30, 2018 and ends on Friday, April 6, 2018. School reopens on Monday, April 9, 2018.

Moving forward, if there is a need to close school prior to Spring Break (March 30, 2018), the following restoration sequence will be in effect:

If there is a need to close school for: School will be In-Session on:
One Day Friday, April 6, 2018
Two Days Thursday, April 5, 2018
Three Days Wednesday, April 4, 2018
Four Days Tuesday, April 3, 2018

March 30, 2018 is a Professional Development Day for District staff. Our Professional Development workshops for March 30, 2018 can be found on the District’s website. The workshops include school safety compliance in Mental Health, as well as an Active Shooter Simulation drill. Both workshops are being facilitated by state and local law enforcement agencies. Please be advised that live ammunition will not be used in the Active Shooter drill. We thank our local law enforcement agencies in advance as we continue to enhance the District’s safety protocol.

As always, if you have any additional questions or concerns please contact me directly at (518) 943-4696.

Regards,
Dr. Ronel Cook
Superintendent of Schools
