At the NYS FCCLA Leadership Conference held in Syracuse this March, Catskill received the award for the Largest Middle/High School Chapter as well as the Loving Cup Award recognizing Catskill as the outstanding chapter in NY State! FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) is a national career and technical student organization that provides personal growth, leadership development, and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education. Catskill’s FCCLA chapter boasts 49 regular members in grades 7-12.
During the conference, several Catskill students presented STAR (Students Take Action and Recognition) Events. STAR Events are competitive, judged events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation of their choosing. Based on their STAR Events, Sydney Moe and Ashley Shook (Food Innovation), and Rachel Marino (Recycle and Redesign) qualified for the National FCCLA Leadership Conference this Summer. They will be heading to Atlanta, Georgia June 28 – July 2 to participate!
Catskill also congratulates the following students for an outstanding job on their STAR Events: Imani Walcott (Chapter in Review),Emma Brown and Aryanna Burbas (Sports Nutrition), and Viktoria Hall (Focus on Children).
This year, Catskill is proud to have had senior Xavier Evans serve as an FCCLA State Officer, who, along with the other student officers on the State Executive Board, organized and implemented the two-day leadership conference in Syracuse. During the event, Xavier was honored with a $500 scholarship from the State FCCLA Foundation.
