Alexa Powell, Caitlin Van Loan, Edward Donahue, and Jenna Murray
Four Catskill seniors were selected to attend and perform at the Zone 9 Area All-State Festival at Wallkill Central School District on November 17, 2018. These students included Edward Donahue (Bass 1), Jenna Murray (Soprano 2), Caitlin Van Loan (Soprano 1), and Alexa Powell (Soprano 1).
In September, several students were recommended by Michelle Storrs, director of CHS Chorus. These students all participated in the NYSSMA Solo Festival at Kingston High School in April 2018. The recommendation along with the NYSSMA score are the components used to select students to participate in the ensemble.
“In my five years at Catskill High School, this is the most students I have been able to accompany to Area All-State. It is a prime example of the growth this program is experiencing and the high level of music talent that Catskill contains,” said Mrs. Storrs.
Students learned four selections and worked under the direction of Mr. Tracy Resseguie and were accompanied by Mrs. Valentina Shatalova. Mr. Resseguie is from Kansas and is the founder and Creative Director of the World Choral Fest. The mixed choir ensemble was chaired by Mrs. Dawn Amthor.
The concert was held at the Wallkill High School Performing Arts Auditorium on Saturday, November 17th at 2pm.
