Catskill is a river town, and to take advantage of the unique opportunity this provides, CCSD has its own fleet of canoes and kayaks for our students to experience our local waterways in. This week, 5th graders enjoyed some time on the water with an introduction to basic boating skills. The classes hiked from Catskill Elementary School to Kiwanis Park, located on the Catskill Creek waterfront directly in front of our High School and Middle School. There, Catskill’s physical education faculty showed the students how to properly fit a life vest and get in and out of a kayak safely before heading out on the creek to get some paddle time! Prior to learning boating in 5th grade, Catskill students take swimming lesson in 4th grade.
