Our second graders made paper chains to decorate the CES Literacy Fair. Not wanting to miss out on an important learning opportunity, their teachers made the project a place value lesson; the children worked in teams to first link their strips in groups of ten and then put their tens together to make hundreds. There were great conversations about how many they needed to get to the next ten and even the next hundred. When all the work was complete, they counted the total number of links they had. The children did an awesome job!
