Life Skills Holiday Feast

The CMS Life Skills class hosted their annual Holiday Feast on December 11. They began the year learning how to read recipes, and put new vocabulary words like mince, chop, tradition, bake, barbecue, baste, boil, and broil to use as they followed different recipes. They learned math and measuring skills as they progressed to making a menu for their event. The students studied the food groups and the different sections of the grocery store. They made a grocery list, looked up and compared prices, calculated the tax to estimate the cost of their dinner, and practiced writing checks. The students then learned how to write an invitation and this week will be writing Thank You notes to their guests. The goal of the program is for the students to be able to carry this knowledge into their life after school. They enjoy and continue to be motivated by this part of the curriculum.
