Special thanks to The Fortnightly Club of Catskill for supporting Catskill Elementary School’s Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program. Pictured here, Fortnightly Club member & teacher Lisa Borgen (second from left) presents a check to RIF coordinator & teacher Kim Jones, flanked by assistant principal Lisa Schlenker and principal John Rivers.

The RIF program provides books to the students in our District for free. Thanks to generous donations from local organizations such as the Fortnightly Club, Catskill Elementary PTA, and Catskill Teachers Association, CES has been able to keep this program up and running despite federal funding for it being cut several years ago. The money that is donated goes to purchase books for our students, which we distribute three times per year. This means all children at CES will receive three free books of their choice!

“It truly makes a difference in the lives of our students,” remarked Mrs. Jones. “It is wonderful to see the smile on a student’s face when you tell them they can take a book home and keep it forever.”

Together with our community, Cats can and Cats will!
