Catskill Teacher Named Green Chemistry Lead Teacher

Woman standing in front of waterfallCatskill Central School District is proud to recognize Catskill High School teacher Stefanie Loomis, who has been named a lead teacher in the Beyond Benign Green Chemistry Lead Teacher Program! As one of the lead teachers who will be representing NY in this three-year program, Mrs. Loomis will receive advanced training and opportunities to further green chemistry education as a workshop leader, conference presenter, and curriculum writer.

Beyond Benign teams up with educators to develop and disseminate sustainable science and green chemistry curriculum, case studies in innovation, lab experiments and outreach activities in K-12 and higher education throughout the world.

The practice of green chemistry seeks to reduce or eliminate the use and creation of hazardous substances. Mrs. Loomis has been applying green chemistry here at CHS for many years, updating lesson plans and finding ways to make science labs safer for our students and teachers. Along with pursuing graduate-level professional development on the subject, she is involved in a NYS Master Teacher Green Chemistry Professional Learning Team. She was accepted into the Lead Teacher Program based on her teaching experience here at Catskill and her demonstrated expertise in the subject.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Loomis on her accomplishment – Cats Can, and Cats Will!
