CHS Art Student Wins Album Cover Contest

Catskill High School senior Isaiah Hayden has the distinction of having his artwork chosen for the cover of a new musical compilation, Green Vistas, that is helping fight food insecurity in Greene County.

Greene Visitas features a collection of original works by Greene County musicians, with proceeds from the album sales, along with a couple of winter release events, going to aid local food banks. The project was orchestrated by Catskill resident Elliott Matos as a way to give local residents viable access to healthy food and resources. It is supported by a CREATE Council on the Arts grant.

In searching for the album’s cover design, Mr. Matos approached Catskill High School art teacher Wendy Doney about the possibility of having Catskill students create submissions for it, as a contest. She immediately brought the offer to her upper level art students, several of whom created entries.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for an up-and-coming artist, especially being a part of such a thoughtful cause,” remarked Mrs. Doney.

As the winner, Isaiah’s design will make up the front and back cover of the cd and also be showcased on Bandcamp, Apple Music and other online platforms where the album can be purchased, with Bandcamp allowing sales to go directly to Greene County food shelves. Isaiah also received a handsome cash award for his winning design, he is pictured right receiving the award from Mr. Matos!

Please join us in congratulating Isaiah on his accomplishment. Cats Can and Cats Will!
