Important Information from Dr. Cook: February Break, Test Kits and District Surveys

February 16, 2022

Dear Catskill CSD Community,

I hope this letter finds you in great health and spirits. Next week, February 21-25, is our scheduled Winter Break, during which there will be no classes. Classes will resume for all District schools on Monday, February 28, 2022.

Prior to the break, and under the advisement of Governor Hochul, the District plans to distribute at-home COVID test kits to all students and staff this Friday, February 18, 2022. Governor Hochul has recommended that students use one of the tests prior to returning to school (on Sunday, February 27, 2022), and another test three-days after returning from the break (on Wednesday, March 2, 2022). Positive test results need to be reported to the school nurse (at the school your child attends) and the Greene County Department of Public Health.

This testing is voluntary. If you do not want your child to bring home a test kit this Friday, then you need to contact the Main Office at the school your child attends to bring this to the attention of the principal.

I also ask that you complete the survey related to the mask mandate as well as the survey about the potential use of additional space on our secondary campus. Both surveys can be found below. The information from the surveys will provide us with insight on how to move forward successfully.

To keep you updated on what is happening at the state level, Governor Hochul has indicated that she will review the COVID metrics in March to help her decide to either continue or discontinue the school mask mandate.

In closing, I thank you for your undivided support during these challenging times. Everyone has their own personal perspective regarding the pandemic, etc. At the end of the day, I can say with certainty that Cats Can, Cats Will and Cats Did!!! Catskill Strong!!

Respectfully submitted,

Dr. Ronel Cook,
Superintendent of School
