5th Graders Head to the Creek

Our area has unique outdoor opportunities and part of Catskill’s curriculum is getting students out there to enjoy them! In June, our fifth grade physical education classes headed to the tidal Catskill Creek to learn the fundamentals of kayaking and fishing. Our classes have been paddling on the creek for years, but fishing first became part of the PE program last school year, thanks to support from the Dick’s Sporting Goods Community Outreach program and a grant from the Catskill Education Foundation. Special thanks to our Dick’s Community Outreach ambassadors for helping our students reel in the big ones and to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office for providing safety for our paddlers on the water!
