The Catskill High School Career & Technical Education (CTE) Business Marketing & Entrepreneurship students attended a leadership trip to New York City on June 21. They traveled on Amtrak to Grand Central Station and made their way to the News Corp. studios of Fox, then to the NY Green Bank, and concluded their day at Yankee Stadium.
During their visit to the News Corp. studios, they gained firsthand experience in how a global news corporation broadcasts. The students observed live studios, interacted with on-air talent and broadcast personnel during breaks, and even had the chance to sit in the professionals’ seats to get a feel for the job. Catskill business teacher Jaclyn Sirianni remarked, “We are so fortunate to be afforded this opportunity to provide our students with a behind-the-scenes look at a successful news media company like FOX.”
The second visit was to NY Green Bank, a division of NYSERDA. There, the students met with Vice President and former Catskill student Matel Anasta. The students were given a tour of the NYSERDA offices and an overview of their role. After the tour, they gathered in the corporate conference room to meet with Mr. Anasta and other executive staff members of Green Bank, including the Managing Partner. They gained valuable insights into the role NY Green Bank plays in encouraging energy conservation. An additional bonus was that lunch was provided for all of the students.
The CTE business students enjoyed a hearty dose of work-based learning for the day, culminating with a subway ride to Yankee Stadium. This trip was fully funded by the school’s business and entrepreneurship clubs and their business marketing activities.
