This October, Catskill High School art students will be participating in a regional art show celebrating the 150th year of the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse. The Light in Our Eyes: Youth Visions of the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse will be up from October 4th-20th at the Athens Cultural Center, where our students’ work will be on display alongside artwork from Hudson and Coxsackie-Athens students. The students will be at the public opening reception Friday, October 4, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Be sure to drop by to hear from these young artists and enjoy some snacks while you view their work!
Last spring, volunteers from the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society gave a presentation to Mrs. Doney’s Studio Art classes, during which students learned about the historic lighthouse that sits right in our backyard on the Hudson River, and efforts to restore it. The students later took a trip to the lighthouse to experience it first hand and draw inspiration for the artwork they created, in mediums of their choosing, for the show. Of special note, Catskill sophomore Adriana Passero’s artwork also adorns the official poster for the event!
The Light in Our Eyes is presented by the Hudson Athens Lighthouse Preservation Society and the Athens Cultural Center, with support from the Athens Community Foundation, Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area, the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Foundation, and ACC Members.
Cats Can and Cats Will! We look forward to being a part of this celebration!
