PE and Art Classes Enjoy Cross-Curricular Walk to Olana

On an absolutely beautiful afternoon, the CHS Run/Walk NY PE incentive program, led by Coach Collier and Coach Lampman, shared a recent walking experience with Mrs. Doney’s advanced art classes. Together, the students enjoyed a day of fresh air and exercise, and experienced art and nature just like the Hudson River School Artists did.

This challenge included a 5-mile trek, much of it uphill, from Catskill High School across the Rip Van Winkle Bridge Skywalk to the Olana State Historic Site. Along the way, the students enjoyed an artistic experience, observing the magnificent autumnal foliage and stunning vistas, just like countless the other artists, admirers and tourists who have enjoyed these beautiful Hudson Valley views over the centuries.

As a bonus, Governor Hochul was spotted nearby on the grounds of Olana for a ribbon-cutting of the newly finished Frederic Church Center for Art and Landscape. This new welcome center is now on site, the first building erected since Frederic Church’s lifetime.

Catskill High School’s physical education department started the Run/Walk NY PE incentive program to initiate motivational strategies and rewards to increase student fitness levels and improve overall wellness, including physical, social, and emotional wellness.
