Dear Catskill School Community,
I hope this message finds you well.
At last night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board approved a two-hour early dismissal for all students on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. During this time, our faculty and staff will engage in important discussions and data collection related to a potential organizational shift within our school district—specifically, the possibility of housing our sixth-grade students at the elementary school.
On January 28:
-
The Secondary Campus will dismiss at 12:20 PM
-
The Elementary School will dismiss at 1:30 PM
This decision is part of a comprehensive timeline we have developed to ensure thoughtful planning and stakeholder engagement. Below is the timeline of activities related to this initiative:
-
December 4, 2024: Initial presentation of the proposal to the Board of Education.
-
December 16, 2024: Distribution of a survey to 5th-grade parents to gather their feedback.
-
January 3, 2025: Meet with the 6th-grade teaching team to discuss potential movement and gather input.
-
January 6, 2025: Meet with secondary CTA members to discuss potential movement and gather input.
-
January 8, 2025: Meet with elementary CTA members to discuss potential movement and gather input.
-
January 21, 2025: Host a parent forum at Catskill Elementary School Library to provide information and hear from families.
-
January 28, 2025: Two-hour early dismissal to meet with CSEA members to discuss potential movement, followed by additional meetings and/or surveys with staff in each building.
This early dismissal and comprehensive timeline reflects our commitment to making well-informed, thoughtful decisions that support the growth and success of our students. By dedicating time to collaborative analysis and planning, we aim to thoroughly explore how this potential shift could enhance our learning environments and benefit our school community as a whole.
We appreciate your understanding as we take this time to ensure that any changes we consider are guided by careful deliberation and the best interests of our students. Further updates regarding this initiative will be shared as they become available.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we strive to make Catskill Central School District an exceptional place for learning and growth.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dan
