Students at our secondary campus returned to school this week to find a lounge area complete with table games and comfortable seating had appeared in the cafeteria!
“We have great kids here, so it’s nice to have some flexible furniture for them to enjoy and so they can build closer connections to their school and each other,” explained Dr. Freya Mercer, our assistant superintendent for curriculum & instruction.
Dr. Mercer used funds from the Stronger Connections Grant our District was awarded to purchase furniture and gaming equipment for the students to enjoy during their lunch break. While students were away over winter recess, she, Dr. Wilson, and Mr. Rivers assembled the furniture and set up the space so it would be ready to go when they returned. It’s been quite a hit with both our high school and middle school students!
