2025 Martin Luther King, Jr. March for Peace & Justice

The CES Business Club and CES Student Council hosted our annual Martin Luther King Jr. March for Peace & Justice event on February 25. The march began at the 2nd Baptist where they were joined by the local Ecumenical Council. Speakers at the church spoke of the importance of this event and the work of Dr. King. From the church, the Catskill Elementary School Student Council led the procession down Main Street to the Greene County Courthouse. Once at the courthouse a brief speech was given on the importance of stopping at the courthouse. When the speech concluded, they marched on to the Catskill Middle School to a large crowd of community members awaiting the start of the ceremony.  There were student speakers from the CES Business Club, CMS Business Club and the CES Student Council. Additional speakers included CCSD Superintendent Dr. Wilson, retired CCSD teacher Ed Synan and 2020 CHS graduate Audra Street. Our music director, Mrs. Michelle Storrs-Ryan, the CHS Treblaires, and CHS Concert Chorus performed three beautiful songs for the occasion. CES Student Council advisor Ms. Erceg, and Business Club advisors Mr Luvera, Miss Overbaugh, and Mrs. Near would like to thank all who participated to make this event a success! They also offer thanks to all the community members who attended and a very special thank you to the Catskill Police Department, which led the way of the march to keep all participants safe.
