Dear Catskill Central School District Community,
It is with mixed emotions that I share with you my decision to resign from my position as Superintendent of Schools at the end of this school year. I have accepted a position as an Assistant Superintendent for Special Education with another district, a role that will allow me to return to my professional roots and continue advocating for students with diverse learning needs.
Serving the Catskill Central School District has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. I am incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made together in building a strong foundation for student success and long-term growth. Over the past several years, we have celebrated meaningful accomplishments that reflect the hard work and dedication of our entire school community.
Together, we achieved the significant milestone of removing both the Catskill Central School District and Catskill Middle School from the state accountability list, a testament to our collective efforts to raise achievement and provide high-quality instruction. At Catskill Elementary School, we launched new curriculum initiatives in math and reading that are already making a meaningful impact on student learning. And perhaps most significantly, we worked side-by-side with all stakeholders, families, staff, students, and community members to create the District’s first long-range strategic plan in approximately 30 years. This collaborative effort reflects a shared vision for Catskill’s future and establishes a clear direction for continued improvement and innovation.
Throughout my time here, I have seen our core values of integrity, perseverance, and compassion reflected in the actions of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the support of our families. These values have guided every step of our journey and will continue to be the foundation upon which Catskill grows and thrives.
I also want to sincerely thank the broader Catskill community for the warm welcome and continued support you’ve shown me. My time as a member of the Catskill Rotary Club gave me the chance to connect with so many of you and gain a deeper appreciation for the pride and passion that define this town. I’m especially grateful to everyone who participated in the Donuts with Dr. Dan initiative; your willingness to engage in open, honest conversations about our schools was both inspiring and instrumental in shaping our work. Those conversations reminded me time and again how much this community cares about the success of its students.
To the Board of Education, our faculty and staff, our families, and most of all our students: THANK YOU. Your belief in our mission and your commitment to our schools have made these achievements possible, and I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me to help lead this important work.
While I will be stepping away from my role at the end of the year, I will always carry with me a deep appreciation for this community and the time we’ve spent together. I am confident that Catskill will continue to grow and move forward with strength, heart, and purpose.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve. It has truly been a privilege.
With gratitude and respect,
Dr. Dan Wilson
