CHS Art Club Creates Little Free Library

This school year, the High School Art Club designed and built a little lending library for the youth in our community. The LIttle Free Library is located at one end of the Black Bridge in the Village of Catskill, where residents can borrow from a collection of books geared toward young adult readers.

To put a little library in town at that location was the idea of Matthew Vaughan, a Catskill resident who approached the Art Club about having them design it. Mr. Vaughan, in conjunction with Joy DeVita of The Friends of the Catskill Public Library as well as Travis Hough, John Murphy, and others, all had a major hand in making the Little Free Library come together and fill it with all sorts of interesting books.

When first asked by Mr. Vaughan to help make this library happen, the CHS Art Club got busy creating! They came up with ideas for the design and began exploring concepts to bring it to fruition. The library is a fairy/gnome-themed design with three-dimensional effects all around it, with hanging vines and painted flowers, inside and out.

The students and community members attended the opening of the Little Free Library on June 6 to show support for this very thoughtful, creative, and welcome addition to our community.
