Expectations for Spectators at Athletic Events

To Families and Students,

Thank you for your continued support of our Catskill student-athletes. We value your investment in our athletic programs and your commitment to creating a positive experience for everyone involved. As we continue our seasons, we’d like to remind all spectators of the expectations when attending Catskill athletic events. Our goal is to uphold a culture built on sportsmanship, respect, and character.

Spectator Expectations

Be kind and respectful to everyone.
There is a shortage of coaches, officials, and game-day staff — all essential to keeping our athletic programs running. Whether volunteers or paid personnel, please show kindness, follow directions, and treat everyone with respect so these programs can thrive for years to come.

Leave the coaching to the coaches.
Spectators coaching from the stands can create a negative and confusing experience for our athletes. If you have questions or comments for coaches, please save them for a scheduled meeting.

Refrain from using vulgar language or noisemakers.
Vulgarity creates a negative environment for players and spectators alike. Additionally, the use of noisemakers is prohibited by Section 2 and NYSPHSAA regulations.

Be mindful of sport-specific etiquette.
For example, in volleyball, please remain quiet during a serve but feel free to cheer once the ball is in play.

Remain off the playing area.
Spectators, including family members, must stay in the stands unless specifically called down by a coach. In the event of an injury, a coach will request a parent or guardian if needed.

Promote positivity.
If you witness or hear anything offensive, please report it to the nearest event staff member so it can be addressed promptly.

Consequences for Misconduct

If a spectator fails to follow these expectations, a staff member will ask them to leave, and gameplay will pause until they have exited the premises. Removed individuals will not be permitted to attend the next home athletic event. Continued violations will result in further disciplinary actions. These expectations apply to all Catskill spectators at both home and away events.

We are proud of our student-athletes and the community that supports them. Let’s continue to create an environment that reflects our values and enhances the interscholastic experience for all.

We look forward to seeing you in the stands—be loud, be proud, and show your Catskill Pride!

Sincerely,
Catskill Athletics and AdministrationÂ
