Our 2020 candidates provided the following information about themselves:
I have been a resident of the Catskill School District for the last 15 years. I currently have two children who are students in Catskill at the Middle and Elementary School campuses. I am also the Step-Father of two CSD graduates. I am the Chief Information Officer for Columbia County. My information technology profession has resulted in 10 years of experience in project management, strategic planning, policy and procedure development, and budgetary planning for multiple departments and projects. My family has also attended Community Life Church for 8 years where I am currently the Connections (Small Groups) Team Leader and a member of the church Administrative Team. I have also most recently sat on the CSD Budget Advisory Committee. All of this experience has taught me that a healthy culture of communication is vital to the success of any organization. That is why, if I am elected, I will work hard to ensure that the communication between the Board, Administration, Faculty, and Staff is nurtured and respected. A unified voice is what our children need speaking for them, especially in the wake of this Global Pandemic. I believe we have some of the best Teachers and Administrative personnel one could ask for. Together we will continue to cultivate a safe and fiscally prudent environment where our children can become mature, responsible and productive members of society. Thank you for your consideration.
My name is Deborah (Deb) Johnson. I have been a teacher, principal, curriculum coordinator and director of curriculum in my 30 year career. I have taught pre-K, K, grade 1, grade 3, and grade 4, and a ¾ looping class. I enjoy seeing students succeed. I have two daughters who attended CCSD from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Both are college graduates. I have five grandchildren scattered in each building in the District. My reason for serving on the Board and seeking re-election is to be sure that all of our students have ample opportunities to reach their potential and become productive citizens in life.
Ryan Osswald has lived in Catskill for 20 years with his wife Jennifer and their 2 children. As an active member of the community Ryan has served as past President and Treasurer of the Catskill Kiwanis Club and was an active member of the club for 20 years. Ryan served as a past board member and President of the Catskill Little League as well as team manager and coach. Ryan is currently the Scoutmaster for Hudson Boy Scout Troop 102. Ryan is a graduate of Hudson High School, and holds a Associates from Columbia Greene Community College and a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and Communication from Marist College.
Ryan returned to the board last years as a “write in candidate” and would like to continue his role as a Catskill School Board Member with the communities support. Ryan would like to continue to serve due to his strong belief in quality education and as a good steward of the taxpayers in the Catskill School District. And to provide continuity and support to the Catskill School District during these unprecedented and turbulent times due to the Covid-19 Crisis which has and will continue to impact the Catskill Educational Community.
Ryan’s wife, Jennifer is a Licensed Social Worker; his Son Dylan is currently a senior in the Catskill High School and his Daughter Molly is a current 8th grader at in the Catskill Middle School.
