My name is Jeremy Engelin and I am running for re-election to the Catskill Board of Education for an additional term. As the current board Vice President, I have worked tirelessly for our students, staff and community for the past three years. Over these three years we have had some tremendous changes, we have passed a capital improvement project, which is bringing our facilities up to current standards and ensuring that all students have a comfortable, well-equipped and safe learning environment. The COVID pandemic has caused us to have to rapidly adapt to ever changing needs of our students and community. We have worked hard to create new methods of instruction to minimize the disruption and maximize our students learning and achievement. It’s been unprecedented times and the Catskill School District and our amazing community responded to the challenge admirably.
I’ve been a resident of Catskill for over 35 years. I am married to Jennifer Engelin and have two wonderful children, Xavier who attends Catskill High School and Gabriella who attends Catskill Middle School. I am a graduate (BS in Accounting, Cum Laude) of SUNY Oswego School of Business.
In my professional life I am the Vice President for Global Sourcing & Logistics at Phoenix Marketing International, one of the largest and fastest growing market research firms in the United States. I have over 20 years of experience in supply chain management, finance, accounting, business process outsourcing and organizational change leadership in the Market Research, Financial Services and Information Technology Industries.
My work experience with its emphasis on accounting, operational and fiscal management, gives me valuable experience working with complex organizations to establish budgets and budget priorities, and align these priorities with strategic outcomes. I want to continue to put my experience to work for our children.
Over the past 3 years I have been a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility. I’ve advocated for financial decisions that are deliberate, measurable and aligned with our district goals. Fiscal decisions need to focus on balancing the benefits for our students, our staff and our community. When balanced correctly this will benefit district residents by protecting and improving property values and minimizing unnecessary tax increases.
I look forward to continuing to serve my community and our students and staff here in Catskill.
