Biographical Sketch of Paul Brown
Paul and Ruth Brown have been married for 45 years. Mr. Brown is the father of six
children, all of whom graduated from Catskill High School; three were valedictorians,
and all were members of the National Honor Society. Mr. Brown is a Vietnam-era
veteran who served in the United States Army. He was an airborne soldier in the
Special Forces (Green Berets), serving with the 5th Special Forces Group stationed at
Fort Bragg, North Carolina, for most of his service. He has practiced judo for most of his
life, which is how he met his wife.
After leaving the military, Mr. Brown earned a degree in computer science and worked
for 15 years as a programmer/analyst and network engineer. He founded Greene
County’s first dial-up internet company, which at one point employed eight people. He
later started Cats Rental, where he is currently employed.
Mr. Brown previously served one term on the Catskill School Board. During his tenure,
the new elementary school was approved for construction, and he helped plan several
major capital improvement projects for the middle school and high school. He worked to
save taxpayers’ money while protecting the quality of students’ education. Mr. Brown
advocates for children with special needs and supports BOCES (Questar) programs,
traditional educational models, music and arts, and enrichment opportunities for gifted
students. He also strongly supports sports and physical fitness programs for students at
every ability level.
