Dear Catskill Families:
After learning of the school shooting at the Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, I
wanted to reach out and remind families of the safety procedures and partnerships we have in
place to help protect our students and our employees.
Our District Safety Coordinator oversees many aspects of school security, including emergency
plans and drills, internal safety procedures and systems, and surveillance cameras. We also
regularly work with our local BOCES for health and safety support.
We maintain partnerships with local law enforcement agencies, including the Greene County
Sheriff's Office, Catskill Police Department, and New York State Police. A School Resource
Officer from the Greene County Sheriff's Office and Catskill security personnel also help support
safety at our campuses. We coordinate additional supervision for school events when needed.
Our schools maintain building access controls, and visitors are required to follow established
check-in procedures. Staff members wear identification badges and are encouraged to remain
vigilant and follow the “see something, say something” approach. We regularly review and
practice emergency procedures with staff and students, and we continue to work with our local
law enforcement partners to strengthen our preparedness
We take school safety and security very seriously. Our thoughts and prayers are with the
families and community of the Silver Rail Elementary School. I also want to thank the many
families who reach out when they see something concerning. Your partnership is vital to keeping
our schools and community safe.
Thank you.
With Pride,
Mr. Junait Shah
Superintendent of Schools
