About Us

Catskill Middle School serves the unique needs of approximately 350 early adolescents in grades 6 through 8. We prepare our students for success in high school and beyond by providing a transitional structure in which learning and creativity can take place in a way that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth. Our school is located on a picturesque campus we share with Catskill High School, located along the banks of the Catskill Creek in the Village of Catskill, NY.

The Middle School uses a team-based instructional model, with one teaching team per grade in grades 7 and 8, and three teaching teams in grade 6. Along with bringing greater continuity to instruction, we believe the team structure fosters closer, trusting relationships between faculty and students, and between students and their peers. The team-teaching structure ensures all students share the same teachers across their core subject areas, allowing faculty to meet the individual student’s needs in a holistic, interdisciplinary approach.

The school building itself, built in 1936, is a stunning example of the famous Public Works Administration projects of the Roosevelt Era. The building has been lovingly updated throughout the years, with care being taken to preserve its classic charm while providing a modern facility that supports 21st Century learning. Because the Middle School building is fully attached to Catskill High School, district students enjoy a seamless transition into high school upon graduating 8th grade.
