Catskill Represents at 2024 NYSSMA Solo Festival

It was a busy weekend for our music department here at Catskill CSD. On Friday, April 19 and Saturday, April 20, student musicians from CES, CMS, and CHS attended the NYS School Music Association (NYSSMA) Solo Festival at Kingston High School. The Festival sees students from all over the region perform solos and duets on instruments, voice, and piano for adjudicators.

Catskill student musicians put on 77 separate performances, marking a strong showing for our school and community. Of these 77 performances, seven received perfect scores and 45 received ratings in the Gold/Outstanding categories!  In addition, five of our high school students submitted their performances as auditions to the prestigious All-State ensembles, to be heard back from later this year.

In all, Catskill is immensely proud of the 11 performances from our elementary school musicians, 30 performances from our middle school musicians, and 28 performances from our high school musicians. They showed incredible markings of growth as individuals and were a a great representation of our school’s values. These students have shown that hard work pays off, and that music is a passion worth pursuing. As always, a huge thank you to the incomparable Mrs. Brooks for accompanying our vocal performers!

Cats can, and Cats will!
