On October 31, seventh graders taking Spanish with Ms. Miner learned about Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Celebrated on November 1 and November 2, Dia De Los Muertos is a celebration that honors and remembers deceased loved ones through activities such as visiting gravesites, creating altars, and holding festivals with food and music. For extra credit, the students made pan de muertos (bread of the dead), sugar skulls, calavera (skull) masks, and atole de leche or champurado. They also built an ofrenda in class which celebrated photos of people or animals who have passed away.
