Catskill Middle School students are participating in the Ride for Focus bicycle education unit during physical education classes. Throughout the unit, students learn proper bike safety, helmet use, bicycle handling skills, braking techniques, balance, turning, and riding etiquette. In addition to developing cycling skills, students are discovering how regular physical activity can improve focus, concentration, confidence, and overall well-being.
The Ride for Focus program encourages students to challenge themselves, work through obstacles, and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime. It also promotes teamwork, perseverance, and responsible decision-making while providing students with a fun and engaging way to stay active.
The program was made possible at CMS through a Community Impact Grant the District received from Outride, which payed for all the bikes and helmets. Outride is a nonprofit organization that works to empower all people to experience the social, emotional, and cognitive benefits of cycling through research efforts, rider education programs, and community grant funding.
