Mrs. Alvarez’s first grade class practices gratitude daily by taking five minutes during social-emotional learning (SEL) time to draw a picture of what they are grateful for. Each morning after the lesson they share with a partner their daily gratitude. The students enjoy listening to others and sharing their ideas. They are creating a “gratitude wall” for the month of November.
CES classes take 15 minutes each morning to do SEL lessons, part of our SEL curriculum created through a summer grant. It is a wonderful way for our youngsters to start the day!
‘Gratitude’ is CES’ school-wide character trait of the month for November. Students who demonstrate the monthly character trait can earn Cat’s Cash for PBIS incentives, and those who embody these traits the most can be named Star Students for that month!
