It was pool weather for our 4th graders, despite it being real chilly outdoors! This January, our PE department brought our students to the warm, tropical vibes of Hudson High School’s indoor pool for their annual aquatics section. Along with learning basic swimming strokes, kicks, and breathing techniques, students learned how to use a personal flotation device (PFD), stay warm in open water, and safely help others in danger. The lessons ended with a free swim and cannonball contest! Swimming is part of CES PE’s larger program that prepares students to safely enjoy recreational opportunities on the water, of which there is plenty to be found in our area. Following swim lessons in 4th grade, our students take basic boating in 5th grade. Special thanks to the Hudson City School District for allowing us use of their pool.
