Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports
Catskill Elementary School uses Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) as a schoolwide approach to creating a positive, predictable, and supportive learning environment. PBIS focuses on clearly teaching expected behaviors, recognizing positive choices, and using consistent supports so every student can be successful.
How PBIS Works at CES
Teach Expectations
Students learn shared expectations for classrooms and common areas so they know what successful, respectful behavior looks like throughout the school day.
Recognize Positive Choices
CES reinforces positive behavior by recognizing students who demonstrate school expectations and character traits. District materials have highlighted tools such as Cats Cash, character recognition, and student celebrations as part of the school’s PBIS approach.
Support Every Student
PBIS is part of a broader system of student support. CES staff use schoolwide expectations, social-emotional learning, counseling supports, and team-based problem solving to help students build positive behavioral and social skills.
Celebrating Success
Positive behavior is something CES celebrates. Recent district activities have included a PBIS Parade and the CES Field Day & PBIS Carnival, giving students opportunities to celebrate their hard work and positive contributions to the school community.
