Sixth grade STEAM students have been learning about the life cycle of butterflies, and this week they got to meet their new butterfly friends. In September, CMS STEAM teacher Shannon LaChance brought in caterpillars she collected for her classes to observe. Over several weeks, the students watched as the caterpillars formed crystalists and entered their pupal stage, during which they underwent a complete metamorphosis. This week, they emerged as adult Monarch butterflies and the students had a chance to hold one! Next week, they plan to release the butterflies into the wild.
