March 12 Recess Concern at CES – No Threat to Students

March 12, 2024

Dear Catskill School Community,

I am writing to address an incident that came to our attention shortly after 12:00 p.m. today at Catskill Elementary School. It was reported by a student that an individual was allegedly observed attempting to speak to students on our playground. The individual was not on campus but had come up to the fence. I am relieved to inform you that our students were never in any danger. The individual in question has been identified and deemed a non threat by the Catskill Police Department. We continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure appropriate measures are taken.

Please be assured, the safety and security of our students are our utmost priority, and we take this matter very seriously. As soon as the incident was reported to one of our teachers, immediate action was taken. We initiated an investigation into the matter, and the Catskill Police Department was notified and responded.

We are taking additional precautions to enhance the security measures around the school premises. We have also reinforced our protocols for supervising students during outdoor activities to minimize any potential risks. Remember to remind your children that if you “see something, say something” regarding anything that may seem suspicious.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued support in keeping our school community safe.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dan Wilson
Superintendent of Schools
