Mark Your Calendars – 2024 Give Back Days

Dear Catskill CSD Family,

As we approach the latter half of the school year, I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the beginning of the spring season.

As you may be aware, our school district has a policy in place for handling snow days and other emergency closures. Each year, we build a certain number of days off into the school year to accommodate unforeseen closures due to inclement weather or other emergencies. However, the unusually mild winter weather this year has resulted in a surplus of five unused snow/emergency days as of the date of this letter.

After careful consideration and consultation with the Board of Education and our employee stakeholder groups, we have developed a plan to address these unused emergency days. It is important to us that we use our resources effectively and ensure that our students receive the quality education they deserve while also respecting the time and commitments of our staff and families. For that reason, we are releasing this plan now to provide everyone with the scenarios that will result based on our utilization of emergency days for the remainder of the year.

  • Calendar Adjustments: With the surplus of unused snow/emergency days, we will be making the following adjustments to the academic calendar. If there are three or less emergency closures during the remainder of the school year, all of the days listed below will be in effect. In the unlikely scenario that we need to make more than three emergency closures, these dates may change.
  • Monday April 8, 2024 – District Closed
  • Thursday May 23, 2024 – Half-day of School
  • Friday May 24, 2024 – District Closed

These adjustments will allow us to make the most of our remaining academic days while also adhering to New York State regulations for instructional time.

Please take time on April 8 to safely observe the solar eclipse as it passes through New York State.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we strive to provide the best possible education for our students.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dan Wilson
