STEAMing Towards Success

A team representing Catskill CSD attended the STEAMing Towards Success conference hosted on November 14 by Questar III BOCES, Capital Region BOCES, and Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES. The focus of the conference was on creating partnerships between businesses and schools in order to prepare students for success in the 21st Century STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) workforce. There were thirty workshops available for educators to attend, including, “Play to Learn: Teaching Through Games,” “Cultivate Potential…Use Solar Energy to Grow Minds,” and “Teaching Historical Events Though Virtual Reality.” One of Catskill’s own, technology teacher Brian McDonnell, presented a workshop at the conference on “Integrating Technology, Mathematics and the Arts to Build a Guitar.”

Also attending the conference were Catskill technology teacher Steven Schultz, STEAM teacher Shannon LaChance, art teacher Wendy Doney, business/media teacher Patrick Hernandez, FACS teacher Kelly Marino, school counselor Beth Daly, CMS principal Kerry Overbaugh, and Board of Education member Deborah Johnson.
