Catskill High School’s Yellow Ribbon Teen Suicide Prevention Team hosted suicide awareness and prevention training for all CHS students during physical education classes on December 5 and 6.
Team members led their peers through several stations they designed to reinforce the message that suicide is preventable and help is always available. Team members also talked about the warning signs of suicide and how to help someone who is in crisis. As part of this discussion, they gave each student a Yellow Ribbon Lifeline Card that can be handed to any other person to ask for help – without ever having to actually say the words.
Yellow Ribbon Team is a student-led, all volunteer organization. Team members undergo specialized training prior to hosting these sessions, which they lead each year at the high school and middle school.
