State Awards Stronger Connections Grant to Catskill CSD

Catskill Central School District is one of the 44 school districts in New York State selected to receive funding through the Stronger Connections Grant Program.

The New York State Education Department recently announced the allocation of approximately $69 million in grants to support schools across the state in expanding safe, healthy, and supportive learning opportunities and environments. The state earmarked Catskill to receive $1,050,000. This competitive grant program, authorized under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act of 2022, aims to assist high-need schools in establishing robust measures to prevent and respond to acts of bullying, violence, and hate.

The award process prioritized applicants that demonstrated the ability to implement comprehensive, evidence-based strategies that meet students’ social, emotional, physical, and mental well-being needs, and increase access to interventions and services.

Catskill superintendent Dr. Dan Wilson said that the District’s inclusion among the recipients of this prestigious grant reflects Catskill’s commitment to fostering a secure and nurturing educational environment.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and innovative approach demonstrated by the District’s leadership, staff, and community,” Dr. Wilson said. “It is through collaborative efforts and a shared commitment to our students’ well-being that we can create an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.”

The Stronger Connections Grant will empower Catskill CSD to further enhance the safety, health, and support systems it has for students within the District. The funding will contribute to the prevention and response strategies that address incidents that may impact the school community at both individual and systemic levels.

“I am confident that Catskill CSD will continue to serve as a model for other districts in fostering safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments,” Dr. Wilson added.

The funds will be distributed pending approval from the State Comptroller’s Office.
