Catskill Central School District is pleased to announce that the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has removed Catskill Middle School from its list of Focus Schools and designated it a Local Support and Improvement School (formerly known as a School in Good Standing). Improvements in recent student achievement scores propelled CMS off the Focus School list on February 29, 2024 when NYSED released its 2022-23 assessment data.
“This is fantastic news and something our entire school community can be proud of,” said Dr. Dan Wilson, superintendent of schools. “I commend our students, their families, and, most importantly, our staff for their dedication and hard work as we continue to build momentum and improve outcomes for the children of this community.”
Dr. Wilson announced the news at the March 13 Board of Education meeting.
NYSED identified CMS as a Focus School during the 2011-12 school year, based on NYS student achievement assessment scores being below the standards set by the state. With NYSED redesignating CMS as a Local Support and Improvement School, no Catskill Central schools are designated as Focus Schools and the District as a whole has been redesignated from a Target District to a Local Support and Improvement District (formerly known as a District in Good Standing).
